As of a few hours ago, Legendary Pictures has officially made the announcement that not only is Dune: Part Two greenlit, but that the film now also has an official release date of October 20, 2023! This means we are officially under two years away from Denis Villeneuve releasing a sequel to Dune! What a time to be alive!

This weekend saw Dune hit $40 Million dollars at the U.S. box office, with it now sitting comfortably around the $220 Million region worldwide. In a tweet making the announcement official (even with star Timothée Chalamet posting a few minutes ahead of time), Legendary Pictures announced the following:

And that’s all there is to it! But, for the sake of not just leaving the article there… we are going to be meeting some new characters in the next film, which means… FAN CASTING! Obviously none of this is concrete, official casting, just my own personal ideas in regards to the future of Dune, so with that being said, if you have any ideas or castings that you’d be a fan of, leave them down in the comments!!!

Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV…

Idris Elba (Source: Variety)

The two names that come to mind for this, at least for me, are Idris Elba and Patrick Stewart, with the latter being the perfect dose of fan service to those who’ve seen David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of Dune, and an extremely acceptable choice with Stewart’s superb talent. Bonus points if they cast Stewart and somehow sneak a pug into a scene with him. As for Elba, I just feel like anyone who has seen him act should know he could bring a strong level of intensity and power to this role.

Princess Irulan…

Anya Taylor-Joy. That is the first name that comes to mind with this role. While being one of the most promising, talented actresses rising in the industry, she has such a unique look and presence that could immeditaly make her standout in this world.

Another interesting choice for the Princess Irulan would be Saorise Ronan, someone who has already acted opposite of Chalamet in both Lady Bird and Little Women.

Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen…

For me, this is the wildcard of these three new integral roles. Whoever plays Feyd needs to be in the similar age range of Chalamet while also being able to play evil, fitting in with Dave Bautista and Stellan Skarsgård as your “Big Bads” of House Harkonnen. Truthfully this one leaves me guessing, but the three names I put forward would be…

  • Caleb Landry Jones, someone who just continually appears to fly under the radar despite giving great performances in a number of movies, including Get Out, The Dead Don’t Die, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
  • Harry Styles, who could either show off his acting chops with him appearing to want to break out more following his stint in Dunkirk, and with future roles in My Policeman and Don’t Worry Darling, or of course, they could just go fully over-the-top and have him play the role like Sting did in the 1984 version!

  • Bill Skarsgård, already has an attachment through his relation to Stellan, his real-life father, and known for playing a famous villain already, in the form of Pennywise the Clown from IT. If I was picking any of the three listed, I would probably go with Bill as my frontrunner for who will be casted.

Anyways, that’s it! That is the tea and my thoughts on potential fan=casting for Dune: Part Two! Let me know if you agree or disagree with these picks and if you are excited for the upcoming science fiction sequel in 2023!
